TOUGH: Trump Says He and Ryan Are Teaming Up, But Trump’s Son Drops Insider Bomb

Though Donald Trump seems to be on somewhat cozy terms with House Speaker Paul Ryan given their recent meeting on Capitol Hill, the presumptive GOP nominee’s son claimed on Thursday that his father is not in any way reliant on the speaker’s potential endorsement.

“If he doesn’t have the speaker’s vote, if he doesn’t have the — his will, or whatever it may be, we’ll go on, right?” Eric Trump said on Fox News’ “The Kelly File” hours after the meeting took place, according to The Hill.

Eric added that while an endorsement from Ryan would be nice, the “ultimate goal to beat Hillary Clinton” transcends any disagreements speaker might have with his father.

“No one wants her to be president,” he explained. “It would be an absolute disaster. So, sure, everybody should band together, and they should march forward. If he doesn’t have it, will life go on? Absolutely.”

Eric went on to note that his father had earned “tens and tens of millions of votes” without the support of Paul or many other establishment Republicans.

“I mean, he’s really run away with this,” he said. “He has more votes than any Republican in any primary ever. I mean, the guy’s done an incredible job. He really has grown the party, he has brought the party together, for whatever that’s worth.”

Moreover, after Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich dropped out of the race, thus leaving Trump by himself, numerous other Republicans whom one might consider to be part of the establishment have thrown their support behind Trump.

Those establishment figures included former Vice President Dick Cheney, Arizona Sen. John McCain, former House Speaker John Boehner, and others.

With support like this, Donald J. Trump does not need Paul Ryan’s endorsement. Heck, he doesn’t even need his friendship.
