If Donald Trump becomes president, he might do something to fight the Islamic State group that hasn’t been done since 1942 — ask Congress to formally declare war on the group.
Trump made the jaw-dropping statement on last night’s “O’Reilly Factor” (via the U.K. Daily Mail) when host Bill O’Reilly asked the presumptive Republican Party presidential nominee if he would go to such a length to fight the Islamic State thugs.
“It wouldn’t bother me at all doing that,” Trump responded. “We probably should have done that in the first place.”
That’s a pretty bold statement for someone hoping to be commander in chief, especially since we haven’t declared war officially in over 70 years. The last formal declaration of war was against three Axis powers — Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary — on June 5, 1942.
Trump noted that the rules of war had changed, though — and that American intelligence hardly knew what the Islamic State thugs were doing.
“Look, we are at war with these people and they don’t wear uniforms,” Trump said. “It’s not your traditional war where it’s a war against Germany, Japan, whoever. This is a war against people who are vicious, violent people that we have no idea who they are, where they come from.
“We are allowing tens of thousands of them into our country now so to top off wars on foreign land, wait ’til you see what happens in the future,” he continued. “It’s probably not going to be pretty.”
Trump said that the Syrian refugee crisis was a “great Trojan horse” for Islamic State group terrorists to enter the country.
“We don’t know who they are, where they come from,” Trump said. “They happen to have cellphones, some of them have cellphones with the ISIS flags on them, so I think it’s something we have to be very tough and very vigilant and very smart (about) or we’re going to be in big trouble.”
The Daily Mail noted that he could be referencing a report out of Norway, in which Syrian migrants were found to have pictures of the Islamic State group on their phones.
A declaration of war would be a huge step in fighting the Islamic State group terrorists and their associated thugs. It also shows that Trump thinks outside of the box in a courageous manner. If only there were more politicians like him. Please like and share on Facebook and Twitter if you agree.
