Trump opens Calif. rally with families of people killed by illegal immigrants

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump underscored his hard stance on illegal immigration during a rally Thursday night by bringing several people on stage whose family members had been killed by illegal immigrants.

“They’re unbelievable, they’ve suffered,” Trump said during a California rally before bringing them up on the stage. “These are great people.”

Trump gave the mic to Jamiel Shaw, whose son was shot and killed by an illegal immigrant in 2008. Shaw has previously appeared in a campaign ad for Trump.

Shaw said he found out the man who shot his son was an “illegal alien on his third gun charge.”

Shaw said Trump’s stance on illegal immigration – centered on mass deportations and building a wall along the Mexican border – gave him hope.

“We demand Americans first,” Shaw said. “We don’t care about illegal aliens.”

Trump called Shaw “a great guy” as he took back the podium after several minutes.

“They all have a very similar story to tell, people that shouldn’t have been here, people that should have never been allowed to come over the border and they come here like its nothing, they walk through it like its nothing,” he said as the crowd chanted “build a wall.”

“We’re going to stop it and we’re going to build a wall.”
