GOP presidential hopeful Donald Trump is known for his unorthodox way of handling just about everything. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the billionaire will be holding a fundraiser in liberal territory and had no qualms about it.
On Wednesday, Trump will hold the event in Los Angeles at the home of Tom and Rachelle Barrack.
That’s right, The Donald is making a gutsy move and heading to Tinsel Town — but that doesn’t mean he will have celebrities lining up to pay the $100,000 price to get inside.
“This town will get vicious to those who support Trump,” one filmmaker told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s not that Hollywood Republicans are cheap. In the end, they’ll contribute, but they want to wait as long as possible.”
Lionel Chetwynd, co-founder of Friends of Abe, a private group of conservatives in Hollywood, predicted that Trump would get more support from those in Hollywood as the election nears.
“This is history, and Hollywood will get involved on both sides,” Chetwynd said. “Nothing will be the same after this election. It will be very hard to sit on the sidelines.”
“It’s a mistake to give money early in the season because your politics will become a topic of discussion around town. It wears you down,” he said.
According to The Reporter, some celebrities secretly do support Trump but simply do not want their support to become public knowledge — yet. That hasn’t prevented some celebrities from already expressing support for Trump, however.
The Trump campaign did not disclose who would be attending the event, which will be co-hosted by Republican National Committee chair Reince Priebus.
Trump was expected to hold some 50 fundraisers in hopes to raise about $1 billion. According to an invitation acquired by The Reporter, the first $2,700 of each ticket would go to Trump’s primary campaign, the next $2,700 would go to his general election and the next $33,400 would go to RNC operations.
