Someone call Al Gore!
It turns out that the much-hyped all-electric vehicles the Obama Administration is trying to force into everyone’s garages actually spew out more pollutants than conventional, fossil-fuel-burning automobiles.
A study at the University of Edinburgh found that electric cars – which are much heavier than conventional cars – produce more toxic tire and brake dust than their lighter counterparts, negating any environmental advantages from the zero-emissions engines.
As these cars accelerate and brake, they create far more brake and tire wear, releasing the dust into the atmosphere.
The particulates are far worse than fuel emissions, the study contends, because their health effects are much worse.
“We found that non-exhaust emissions, from brakes, tires and the road, are far larger than exhaust emissions in all modern cars,” Victor Timmers wrote in the study. “These are more toxic than emissions from modern engines so they are likely to be key factors in the extra heart attacks, strokes and asthma attacks seen when air pollution levels surge.”
The cars’ lithium batteries are inordinately heavy – weighing as much as 1,300 pounds. Upwards of 90 percent of all emissions for these electric vehicles are in the form of particulate matter, The Daily Caller is reporting.
The study’s authors concluded that in the future, policies and regulations should focus more on the weight of electric and hybrid vehicles than they do currently.
The study comes two months after research by the investment firm Devonshire Research Group, a company that specializes in valuing and devaluing tech firms, showing that Tesla electric vehicles are “not as sustainable as they may seem.”
The study also shows that Tesla’s CEO, techno-wonder Elon Musk, could expose the company to “serious brand risk and an unknown legal exposure.”
In fact, according to the research, everything about the Tesla — from its headlights, to its chassis, to the way it is produced — contributes to environmental degradation.
