VICTORY: Sheriff Joe Arpaio Wins… Obama’s DOJ Horrified

‘America’s toughest sheriff’ survives first 2016 political test despite assault from Obama DOJ

Sheriff Joe Arpaio won a crushing victory over three challengers in a Republican primary election Tuesday, and will go on to run for his seventh term as sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona. He took 66 percent of the vote.

The self-styled “America’s toughest sheriff,” Arpaio is famed for his staunch opposition to illegal immigration and his outspoken opposition to the Obama administration. He is also a vocal supporter of Donald Trump. So popular is the aheriff among conservatives, he was able to raise over $11.3 million for his campaign — a respectable sum for the marquee U.S. Senate contests in the country, let alone a county municipal race.

Arpaio's victory also came despite facing a witch hunt from the Obama Justice Department. Arpaio faces federal prosecution for failing to cease racial profiling after being ordered to do so previously, a charge Arpaio denies utterly. "Very simply, he's not going to resign and he's not going to accept a plea agreement to something he didn't do," Mel McDonald , his attorney, told The Washington Post Monday.

"We provided the court page after page after page of all the efforts that had been made to carry out the judge's order," McDonald said. Arpaio is a strident, high-profile enforcer of immigration laws — and thus an inevitable and ideal target of political persecution for the amnesty-mad Obama administration.
