In one of the first major excerpts of the Megyn Kelly interview of billionaire businessman Donald Trump to appear in the media, Trump surprisingly lavished Kelly with praise, saying that he respected her work and that he would not have made the move to bury the hatchet that Kelly made.
The much-anticipated interview, arranged by the Fox News host over a clandestine meeting at Trump Tower, will air in full on May 17. However, on this week’s “Live With Kelly & Michael,” Megyn Kelly debuted a bit of it in the form of a clip.
In the clip, Kelly confronted him about his anger over a question at last August’s GOP debate in which Kelly intimated Trump may have made sexist remarks about women in the past.
“You seemed to stay angry for months. Was that real, or was that strategy?” Kelly asked Trump in the clip.
““Well, I’m a real person,” Trump responded. “I have great respect for you that you were able to call me and say ‘Let’s get together, let’s talk.’ To me, I would not have done that.”
“He was clearly unhappy about that Aug. 6 debate question,” Kelly told the show’s co-hosts.
It has been a fractious relationship between the two since then, with Trump calling Kelly “crazy” over Twitter and not showing up to one of Fox’s debates. Fox News, meanwhile, issued a statement blasting Trump over his “sick obsession” with Kelly.
However, if the interview goes like this, it’s clear that a warmer, gentler Trump has emerged over his months on the campaign trail.
Make no mistake, The Donald is as feisty as ever, ripping into political correctness and liberal bugaboos like nobody else. However, one can sense a new honesty and thoughtfulness emerging in this clip.
Will the rest of the interview be like this? We’ll keep you posted.
