Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, had had enough — enough of Democrats occupying the floor of the House of Representatives, and enough of attempts to make the terrorist attack in Orlando, Fla., a piece of the liberal narrative on gun control.
And so, on Wednesday, he rushed the gaggle of Democrats staging a sit-in on the House floor to speak his mind.
As Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., was calling for gun restrictions, Gohmert stormed into the circle of protesting Democrats and yelled, “Radical Islam killed these people!”
Gohmert then verbally mixed it up with Demorcrats and had a heated exchange with Rep. Corrine Brown, D-Fla., whose district includes the site of the Orlando massacre. Lawmakers had to separate the two, The Hill reported.
“We are talking about radical Islam!” Gohmert yelled over the din in his final comments, waving his finger at photos of the Orlando victims. “Radical Islam killed these people!” he yelled.
Speaking later on Fox and Friends, Gohmert talked about the incident and the politicization of terrorism that so revolted him.
“This is insane to try to take away our civil rights, our Second Amendment rights. … They [Democrats] were fundraising. They’re doing fundraising calls based on the deaths of these people and we’re standing up for it. It is just so outrageous,” he said.
Gohmert then delivered his summation of the real issue facing the nation.
“The Orlando shooter personally in his own voice message made clear he was killing for the Islamic State, which is the most incendiary, radical form of Islam. Muslim friends in the Middle East, Africa and Asia have asked me why the Obama administration refuses to recognize that the radical Islamists are at war with us, and House Democrats joined in that refused recognition today,” he said Wednesday night.
Gohmert said the Democrats’ tactics were wrong.
“The sit-in on the House floor violates so many different House rules, yet they continue in sheer disrespect for the memory of the Orlando victims by refusing to stand up to or even call out the radical Islamist hatred that drove the murderer. After 11 hours of their disrespect for the House rules and the Orlando victims, I had to speak up and point out radical Islam killed those innocent victims,” he said.
