In a move that some will consider a pivot away from his initial stance on the matter, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has clarified that he never intended to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S., but rather all individuals from countries with high rates of terrorism.
Trump campaign spokeswoman Katrina Pierson appeared on CNN with anchor Brianna Keilar to discuss the clarification, saying, “Well it’s only really a change if you never knew what the ban was to begin with. I know the news media has been reporting that the initial ban was against all Muslims and that simply was not the case. It was simply from Muslim immigration.”
“Mr. Trump is simply adding specifics to clarify what his position is as opposed to what the media has been what reporting it is,” Pierson continued. “There has been no change to this. Mr. Trump still wants to stop individuals from coming into this country who cannot be vetted.”
Pierson went on to explain Trump’s initial comments on banning Muslim immigrants, saying they were limited in scope to immigration only.
