A CNN anchor grew livid with Trump campaign director Paul Manafort for refusing to go along with CNN’s contention that Melania Trump’s Monday night speech to the Republican National Convention plagiarized a Michelle Obama speech from 2008.
CNN’s Chris Cuomo accused Manafort of lying about the speech. CNN has insisted that speech was intentionally copied from Michelle Obama’s remarks. Manafort denied that, as well as Cuomo’s claim that he was not telling the truth.
“As far as we’re concerned, there are similar words that were used, we’ve said that, but the feelings of those words and the commonality of those words do not create a situation which we feel we have to agree with you,” Manafort told Cuomo, who was upset that Manafort would not say what CNN wanted said.
“You’re distracting from the story line by refusing to acknowledge something that’s true,” Cuomo said at one point. He also sought to use the speech as a way to tar the entire campaign, telling Manafort, “When faced with something that you did wrong, you just deny it, no matter whether it is true or not.”
